Tennessee Barber Technician Practical Exam Kit List
Tennessee's barber technician practical covers a manicure on a prepped hand and a facial on a mannequin, graded step by step and strictly in order. These are the 22 supplies PSI lists for it.
A wrong item costs you points, not your seat. The bulletin is explicit: if you do not bring the listed items, or bring a wrong one — its own examples are real hair colour or real perm solution — you receive no points for the steps that used it. Nobody stops you; you simply score nothing for that work.

Kits, supplies and equipment
The bulletin's own wording is "recommended supplies" — but see the scoring rule below.
Don't pack these — the test centre supplies them
Tennessee publishes what the vendor provides, which is unusual — most bulletins leave you guessing.
- Hot and cold running water
- Work stations with electricity
- Brooms and dust pans
- Wall clock

Rules that cost points
- Bringing a wrong item — the bulletin's examples are real hair colour or real perm solution — means you receive NO POINTS for the steps that used it. It is a scoring penalty, not a dismissal.
- Disinfectants must carry a legible manufacturer's label listing virucidal, bactericidal and fungicidal properties.
- Monomer must be factory sealed and labelled by the manufacturer as "low odor" or "odorless".
- All identifying marks on your attire and supplies must be covered — school and candidate names included.
- Every procedure criterion must be performed IN ORDER to earn its point, and you must raise your hand at the end of each section to signal completion.
- Steps not listed in the rating criteria are not graded — performing extra or altered steps earns nothing.

Read from the PSI Candidate Information Bulletin — TN Apprentice Barber Technician (1000) on 2026-08-14. Tennessee's other two barber bulletins carry no kit list — Master Barber uses the PSI closable-container format with no itemised supplies, and Barber Instructor asks candidates to bring whatever their own lesson plan and demonstration require — so neither has a page here.
